Corine Remande, 49, was hit by a Brooks Koepka drive on the sixth hole last Friday.

After the ball hit, she fell to the ground and received medical attention from the team before she was rushed to hospital in Lyon, where scans showed she had a fracture and 'explosion of the eyeball'. Doctors later confirmed to the woman that she had lost sight in her eye.

Speaking to AFP, Remande, who had flown over from Egypt with her husband to watch the cup, said: "It happened so fast, I didn't feel any pain when I was hit.

"I didn't feel like the ball had struck my eye and then I felt the blood start to pour.

"The scan on Friday confirmed a fracture of the right eye-socket and an explosion of the eyeball."

Now she is considering launching legal action to help pay her medical costs. She says there was no warning from officials at the event and that no one has been in touch since.

She added: "Quite clearly, there is responsibility on the part of the organisers.

"Officials did not shout any warning as the player's ball went into the crowd."

US golfer Koepka went to check on Remande immediately after she was hit. Remande says she 'downplayed' it so that Koepka wouldn't be distracted during the game and added that she 'appreciated the gesture' from him.

The golfer appeared to 'visibly shaken' following the incident, according to onlookers.

Afterwards, he said: "It looked like it hurt.

"It's hard to control a golf ball, especially for 300 yards, and a lot of times the fans are close to the fairway.

"You can yell 'fore' but it doesn't matter from 300 yards, you can't hear it."

According to the Mirror, the co-organiser of the Ryder Cup, The European Tour, is believed to be launching an investigation into the incident.

The US lost the cup following a 17.5-10.5 defeat against Europe.
